Character Design

This is a fun beginner-friendly class that will teach you a new way to draw portraits. This course will elevate your drawing skills to the next level and help you become comfortable with facial expressions. If you want to illustrate your own short stories, go into animation, or learn how to draw faces from imagination, this course will provide you with an introduction to the character design. You will learn a technique (created by Prima Materia founder Olya Losina) for creating unique characters in any style. This course will show you how to draw a variety of personalities, fast.

To draw from imagination, you need to start with the basics: proportions, facial structure, muscles, texture, highlights, and shading, which you will absorb in the first class. Then you will learn how by shading and placement of facial features you can change an expression. At the end, you’ll be able to combine these features to create a large number of characters! The main bonus of this course is that it is fun and easy.

No experience? No problem! Absolute beginners welcome. The instructor will demonstrate each step in real time.
