Less than a year ago, Robyn celebrated a milestone every artist remembers forever: their first juried show acceptance. I want to share her story because a lot has happened since then.
Robyn Reynolds Jucius, a Prima Materia member since 2019, found her passion for oil painting after participating in the "Introduction to Oil Painting" course. By taking nearly 500 Prima Materia classes, Robyn created a massive body of work that allows her to enter art competitions and juried exhibitions, and sell her art. Through hundreds of hours of in-class practice, she became comfortable working in large format in a variety of mediums, as you'll see below.
I wanted to revisit Robyn's milestones to inspire you with the possibilities that open up when you maintain momentum through consistent effort.

What happens when you follow these two golden rules: “show up and do the work”? Robyn did, and success followed - as it always does! What began as a curiosity about art-making evolved into a passionate commitment.

We encourage our students to enter their pieces in various art competitions. Robyn did, and was delighted that her figurative work, titled “In Retrospect” was accepted. That led to her art being accepted to more shows in quick succession. One at the Loading Dock Gallery (Lowell, MA) called Public Places, Private Spaces , and one with the Cambridge Art Association's (Cambridge, MA) National Juried Show, where "Lost in Thought" was sold. Since then, she's sold more pieces through Instagram. Robyn was surprised by how quickly it all happened!

Robyn continues taking classes and receiving mentorship while creating powerful art on her own, such as the three paintings below.
