Continue looking for photo references. Before committing to a picture, create thumbnail sketches - explore compositional options, study the shapes of lights and shadows, and play with color.
Send me your photos, studies, and practice pieces.
When you begin on your large scale pastel piece, work vertically on a easel or a wall.
Write down what windows and doors mean to you. What is their significance? What message opens up with subject matter? Write as much that comes to your head - stream of consciousness style.
Then, write down how you would visually express those ideas. You can even sketch it out. This will give you tremendous clarity for your next project, and will make it meaningful and personal. We’ll discuss it next week.
Collect photo references you'd like to use for your large-scale artwork. If you can't decide, email them to me (hello@primamateriainstitute.com) and I will help you in class.
