Week 2:
Finish your van Gogh study from class.
Tips while you're painting:
- Squint to see tonal values
- Use directional brushstrokes to "sculpt the form"
- Shadows typically are cooler in color (violets and blues), whereas illuminated areas are typically warmer in colors (reds and yellows)
IMPORTANT if you're using oils:
- After you're done painting, lay your rags / paper towels over either your container or edge of the trashcan to dry. Once dry, these rags can be thrown away or reused with no issue. Do not allow it to sit while it's crumpled as it may spontaneously combust. If you do not think you can remember this, you should switch to acrylics.
- Wash your brushes with soap and water if you don't plan to paint for the next 24 hours. You cannot use brushes that have water on them, no matter the amount. Give you brushes a full 24 hours to dry.
