Most art supply stores will have everything you need, however there is a medium called tempera of which the only brand we recommend buying is exclusively sold at Blick Art Supply.

Painting supplies:
- A 62" or 48" roll of 5-6 yards primed, unstretched canvas
- Pushpins for securing canvas onto wall
- Canvas, variety of sizes. Many classes call for canvas, so buy them in bulk
- Blick Premium Tempera paint (not any other brand or type, not even Blick Student or Blick Essential): Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Black, White (click here for a set)
- Other colors are optional in addition to what's above. Gold, silver, and copper are fun to have!
- Gouache is an alternative to Tempera
- Watercolor paint set
- Acrylic paints, 2oz tubes in Golden brand, 4oz tubes in any cheaper brands (We recommend Golden Paints as they’re high-quality, pigmented paints. However, Liquidex and Blick Basics are great brands as well)
- Bristle paint brushes (for acrylics), variety of sizes and shapes
- Calligraphy brush
- Soft hair paint brushes (for watercolors) in a range of sizes and shapes: flat, round, detail set
- Freezer paper to be used as palette paper, for mixing colors
- Paper towels or rags
- Cup for water
Drawing supplies:
- Non-spiral bound mixed media pad, size is up to you. Not recommended to go larger than 9x12"
- Regular printer paper
- Workable fixative spray (for when you're done with your drawing)
- 4B Pencil, you can purchase a set of B, 2B, 4B, etc. Just be sure that at least one pencil is 4B
- Willow charcoal, medium
- Erasers (Artgum, kneaded, factis)
- Tiny mechanical eraser
- Sharpener
- 12” ruler, Clear acrylic is recommended but you can use what you already have
- Elmer’s white glue
- Black waterproof brush-marker (be sure it is pigment-based/waterproof, not water-based)
- Large pair of scissors (regular scissors are fine as well)

Each student’s portfolio requirements and personal preferences are different, so the expanded list of art supplies may vary. Your instructors will determine further into the program which supplies will be necessary, depending on your personal art path!
