Create powerful abstract artworks using mixed media, words, and imagery. In this course, you'll experiment with newspaper clippings, magazine pages, and a variety of paper textures to build a piece that goes beyond traditional abstract painting. Inspired by artists like Robert Rauschenberg who said, "You begin with the possibilities of the material", you’ll explore how text, even when illegible, carries rhythm and visual weight. The brain instinctively seeks meaning, making every abstract choice feel intentional.

Through three guided studies, you'll explore different approaches to abstraction using collage, paint, and layering. These smaller pieces will prepare you for a final large-scale work, which can stand alone or form part of a polyptych series. By the end of the course, you'll have four hang to ready pieces and a deeper understanding of the expressive potential of abstraction.

Beginners will love the freedom to explore abstract art, and advanced artists will enjoy reawakening their sense of play through new techniques and perspectives.
