Finally, a course for animal lovers! Unleash (no pun intended) your artistic potential with drawing animals of all kinds. Perfect for beginners and experienced artists alike, this class will guide you through the basics of working with black and white conté on a colored surface. The surprising effect of using tonal paper is that your monochromatic drawings will actually look colorful.
Drawing animals on tonal paper goes back to the 16th century and in the beginning you will be led through the traditional method of how to use the color of paper when drawing with just black and white. We will start with the technique for creating striking dynamic drawings of wild and domestic animals where the background color gives us the tone for the fur or mane. In the second half of the course, we will make use of the more advanced technique with paper color when it calls for creativity and artistic decisions: how to make the eyes glow, or how to create the yawn of a lion or dog, or the radiance of a peacock's tail. You will be given the opportunity to work with your own photo references, while taking full advantage of what you’ve learned.
If you're looking to expand your skills and truly learn how to depict animals, in this class you will discover a medium that can help you create impressive animal art.
