During this three week course, you will create three landscape paintings using the beautiful medium of soft pastels and complete one drawing per week. This will give us artworks that are loose, colorful, and fresh. Impressionists themselves would often use soft pastels to create studies since pastels are easy to travel with, work with, and clean up - all the freedom of a painting with a fraction of the materials.

We’ll be studying pastel works by Degas, Monet, Morisot, and other Impressionist masters, known for their colorful brushwork - we’ll replicate this with soft pastels, a drawing medium used for its painterly appearance. Yes, soft pastel drawings are often called paintings! Soft pastel is very forgiving, allowing you to layer, colormix, and correct mistakes. The instructor will show you the step-by-step process of creating pastel paintings in the Impressionist style with a variety of landscapes references.

This course is open to all levels - the instructor will provide personalized feedback to each student.
