Join us for an immersive beginner-friendly art course that focuses on drawing in the academic style, where you'll learn the foundational skills of drawing realistically using graphite. Creating a realistic drawing is an important artistic ability because it is visible proof that the artist has control, focus, and can persevere until an artwork is proportionally and tonally accurate with necessary details and textures. Pencil is the medium of choice because it showcases your skills without any "fluff" or distractions; it's why many colleges ask specifically for pencil drawings, and why art schools throughout the centuries have had their students use graphite for their artistic training.

You do not need drawing experience in order to join, although you may be more comfortable knowing the basics which is taught in the Essential Drawing Course. Through a series of guided lessons and demonstrations, you'll learn the techniques used by artists for centuries to create detailed and accurate drawings. You'll start with an initial silhouette and gradually progress to more complexity, learning how to observe and replicate the three-dimensional world around you with precision and skill on a two-dimensional surface. Emphasis will be placed on developing a keen eye for proportions, perspective, value, and composition, which are essential skills for any artist that is serious about taking their skills to the next level.

Throughout the course, you'll receive personalized feedback and guidance from our experienced instructor, who will provide constructive critique and individualized instruction tailored to your skill level and progress. You'll also have the opportunity to engage in group discussions, allowing you to learn from your peers and gain valuable insights into the artistic process.

You'll also explore the historical significance of graphite as a drawing medium, used by renowned artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Gustave Doré, and Edgar Degas, among many others. You'll learn about the various types of graphite pencils, papers, and other tools used in academic drawing, and how to effectively use them to create detailed and convincing drawings.

By the end of this course, you'll have developed a solid foundation in academic drawing, equipping you with the skills and knowledge to continue your artistic journey with confidence. Whether you're a beginner artist looking to develop your drawing skills or an experienced artist looking to refine your techniques, this course will provide you with a strong foundation in realistic drawing and prepare you for further exploration and development where you can enjoy this elegant and respected medium.
