Introduction to Watercolors

Watercolor is a technique-based medium. What we call “technique” is the understanding of the special properties of watercolors that you have to know to make the best of this material. The course will help you become comfortable with watercolor’s fluid nature, the technical aspects of color-mixing and brushwork. In six weeks, you will be introduced to the vivid palette, stress-free color blending, building a rich color harmony, layering, glazing, making tonal transitions, and doing colored washes. Watercolor is wonderfully versatile - lending itself to both expressive or realistic artworks. You will learn the classic watercolor technique and pick up three other techniques that are more creative and spontaneous. 

The objective is to help you experience the beauty of watercolor and fall in love with this medium by learning how to control and personalize it.  

Beginners welcome - no art experience needed.

You will learn how to:

• color mix on the palette
• choose brushes for the particular tasks
• apply various types of brushwork
• control tonality of color (lights and shadows)
• reserve the white
• fix mistakes
• discover a more contemporary, creative, and playful approach by using additional materials.
